Extended Project Qualification in Cyber Security

What is the Qufaro Cyber EPQ?

The UK’s first Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) in cyber security is in its second year. The Qufaro CyberEPQ, certificated by City and Guilds, has been developed by a consortium of education and cyber security partners, including Bletchley Park Qufaro, Cyber Security Challenge UK, and Heart of Worcestershire College.

The qualification is equivalent to other EPQs. However, it has a set framework of learning and there are industry experts to guide students through the course. The topic areas are based on those found in the National Occupational Standards in Cyber Security and therefore reflects requirements as defined by industry experts. This year we will add the topics GDPR, Cyber Essentials and Cryptography.

The EPQ is part of level three of the National Qualifications Framework and is equivalent to an AS-Level. It can represent up to 28 UCAS credits on university applications.

Now in its second year, the Qufaro CyberEPQ has proved very popular with school-aged students, mature career-changers and teachers wanting to understand better the cyber security industry. For school-aged students, it can help in gaining an apprenticeship or in preparing to take a degree in a related subject.

The course is delivered using a distance learning platform called Moodle. There, you will find videos from cyber professionals introducing topics and telling you how they entered the industry; quizzes and interactive learning materials to test your knowledge; research and investigation tasks to dive deeper into subjects; and interactive games to test skills.

The course is project-based, with a final written essay and a presentation based on what you have learned contributing to your final mark.

You can study the course as an independent learner or through a school and college. As an independent learner, you can access a team of tutors and technical experts to guide you along the way. In schools and colleges, teachers can guide students throughout the course.

There will be an administration fee for all learners

Anyone over 19+ (and not in full-time education) will pay a one-off fee of £249.99 plus VAT [£299.99] (includes City and Guilds registration @ £35 per student).

Anyone aged 18 and under (whether or not in full-time education) will pay £119.00 plus VAT [£142.80] (includes City and Guilds registration @ £35 per student ).
